The boss discussed Eddie Nketiah’s future, Takehiro Tomiyasu playing at left-back, the latest injury news and more.

Read on for a full transcript of his post-match press conference:

if we worked hard for victory…
Yes, given the way we started I think we were electric, so determined, so incisive, we scored two good goals, created chances and didn’t let anything happen around our box. And then obviously the red card presents a different game where they completely change their behavior and set-up and you have to handle the game in a different way. I think for a lot of phases we did well but we had to score the third goal and we had the chances to do that and then the accident happened when the first time they crossed a kick set foot, we conceded a goal and that’s the game and some nerves have to be managed.

if you take your foot off the accelerator…
I don’t think it was just trying to play the game that we have to play in this phase I think we showed a lot of maturity not to rush things and start conceding breaks we don’t We didn’t do any of that, but we didn’t find the net in the key moments to score the third goal and have a different last 20 minutes.

on whether the team is motivated to secure the Champions League against Tottenham…
We want to prepare and go for this game like we always do, with the same enthusiasm, but obviously knowing that this can be a defining moment and it’s an extra level of motivation and another layer for us to really go for it. and I can’t wait to play this game.

on the future of Nketiah…
Eddie is doing what he’s been doing all season, he’s been very consistent, in his performances and how little he gives! Leave him alone, let him enjoy the moment because he fully deserves it and things will happen naturally.

on winning by narrow margins recently…
Well, we find ways to win football matches. The way we played today, especially the first 30 minutes, was brilliant. So under the pressure to play as we did in front of ours, it’s all to their credit, but obviously we have an opponent and the context changes throughout the match and we don’t expect to be everything time for 95 minutes on top of the game and we take care of that and get better because at the end of it we win football games.

on nerve control…
Hopefully not, but I think when you look at the other games, you see a lot of that. Now is the decisive moment when a goal can change the whole season, and it plays behind the players’ backs but I didn’t see any of that at the start of the game.

on his relationship with Xhaka…
It’s the relationship he has with his teammates, obviously the fact that he plays a lot of minutes, and the merit of having been very consistent again throughout the season, that’s what we need. players to get closer to their best.

on Saka’s physical condition…
Yeah, he was fine.

on players who suffer during matches…
It’s football, if you look at what happened a few days ago in Madrid, there are things that no one can explain but that’s the beauty of this game, and the suffering unfortunately for all of us , especially for managers, that’s part of it .

on whether White will be fit for the North London derby
I think so, he has started to work a bit now on the pitch and we want everyone to be available because we know this game is so important.

Tomiyasu plays at left-back.
It was for today, we can’t do things thinking about the next game, we think it was the right thing to do today with what we wanted to do on that side, especially this which Leeds had aside.

on the atmosphere inside the dressing room…
Really good, really positive, but at the same time really humble. We know that nothing is done yet and still a lot of things and a lot of minutes to play to do what we want to do.

on Pepe’s missed chance…
When you see that he has an empty net in front of him and he takes a throw-in from the back, you can’t really understand but you have to have the player’s perception at that moment. They are the ones who make the decisions, and fortunately, we did not need this objective.
