Tonight, Tommy Dorfman made his Met Gala 2022 debut. Riffling on this year’s theme, the actress returned to the golden age by putting a modern spin on period dress in a strappy dress. dark green rubber with cutout details and gold embellishments in collaboration with Christopher Kane.
Her beauty look hit similar notes with a blurry glow inspired by 19th-century portraits, her makeup artist Shayna Gold create red lips and cheeks with MAC Powder Kiss Liquid Lipstick in Date-Maker and MAC powder blush in Burnt Pepper, respectively. Then there was her hairstylist-designed wispy bun Blake Erik, accessorized with an ornate golden crown and an artfully placed Fred Leighton comb, each from the 19th century. If you noticed Dorfman shining brighter, it wasn’t just her luminous complexion and range of aureous accessories, but her cool blonde hair color.
It was all about taking Dorfman “back to his roots,” says the New York colorist Jenna Perry, the pro behind the star’s freshly bleached lengths. “I was so excited because it had been a long time since I had a blonde makeover,” she continues. Last week, the pair met at the studio in Perry’s East Village and after three and a half hours their new sandy blonde, inspired by Dorfman’s natural flax as a child, was complete. “Tommy’s hair was a light brown shade that wasn’t heavily processed at all, which made it easy to transform with the balayage,” says Perry, who painted Dorfman’s entire head with balayage highlights, shifted her base for an even effect and glossed over with a few layers of golden blonde tones.
